Wil and Megan Seiler from Bottle Tree Organics in Murgon are the guest speakers for the May breakfast. Wil and Meganʼs foray into free range, organic pig farming is a story of passion and battling insurmountable odds.
Originally permaculture vegetable farmers, they were moved to grow free range pigs on their property after seeing a sow enduring an appalling existence in a sow crate at a farm machinery auction. Their story is one that exemplifies the Slow Food philosophy and is both brave and admirable.
A large part of Slow Food is to support small scale producers who use traditional farming methods, such as free range practices of livestock. Not only does free-range farming allow for a more ethical treatment of animals but it also creates healthier animals, which translates as healthier food for consumers.
