2011: Slow Pig Project
In February this year Slow Food Noosa was proud to announce that it had bought a fine young pig from a local farmer, near Gympie. Our pig is one of 6 siblings.
The pigs are fed on a diet of sprouted grain, as well as table scraps, and they have picturesque rolling green pastures to roam around on. Our pig will be around 6 months old in July, a good age for eating. He will be sent to the local abattoir and then come to us as a whole pig, including head, tail and trotters.
Slow Food Noosa has organised three special events this year to make use of our little piggy and promote free range pigs and traditional cooking skills:
