2010: Steve Waugh’s Vegetable Farm, 20 September
VEGETABLE FARM VISIT
To the QANTAS ‘BEAN KING’
If you enjoy the good fresh flavour of vegetables and yearn for a trip to the country, then this Slow Food tour is for you. We have hired a bus to take you on a visit to Steve Waugh’s Vegetable Farm, in a beautiful valley west of Gympie.
The 45 seater bus leaves from the ‘J’ at 9.30am prompt , on Monday (Steve’s only day off) 20th September and will return by 4.30pm approx.
Steve and his wife Trena are well know identities at their Vegetable stall, every Sunday, at Noosa Farmers Market. The winners of several Champion awards for Home Vegetable Growers at Gympie Show, the jewels in their combined crowns are Steve’s long-standing contract to supply green beans to Qantas airlines and Trena’s skill in growing heirloom tomatoes.
After a morning tea of Trena’s delicious vegetable cakes, we will tour Steve’s two farms, then enjoy a Barbecue lunch, prepared by our Convivium Leader, Blue Angel owner-chef, Daniel Mosedale, accompanied by a selection of delicious vegetable salads, prepared by the committee.
For dessert, we are inviting members to participate by bringing their favourite Ginger cake, slice, biscuit or Ginger dessert, to be judged then enjoyed by everyone.
This will be a BYO day. BYO picnic chairs or rugs, plates, mugs, cutlery, glasses and drinks, plus your Ginger Competition entry. And wear ‘sensible’ shoes! Numbers are limited so book quickly.
